Apple reportedly is working on two augmented and virtual reality products — a headset and a pair of smartglasses.

Previous reports from The Information claim Apple first will launch a combination AR/VR headset that could debut as early as 2022.

This headset will be followed by a pair of augmented reality smart glasses in 2023.

A follow-up report last year by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman corroborates this date and hints the headset launch could happen faster, possibly as early as 2021.

These reports suggest the headset could resemble the Oculus Quest with a high-resolution display and a lightweight design that makes it comfortable to wear. Apple may reach out to developers as early as 2021 to garner support for this new device platform.

Apple then may follow up with a pair of augmented reality smart glasses that are designed to be worn all day.

The styling reportedly borrows heavily from existing glasses, though the AR technology will require slightly thicker frames to accommodate the battery and its electronics.

These dates are tentative and may change as the coronavirus’ impacts on worldwide manufacturing play out over the coming months. Regardless, the continuous rumors and string of patent applications strongly suggest Apple is working on something exciting in this space.
