The Apple Watch SE is one of the most popular products in the Apple Watch lineup. It looks almost exactly like the Series 7, is much cheaper, and meets the needs of the average user. But I’ve heard from people familiar with the matter that Apple is planning to unveil a new Apple Watch SE this September, and I wanted to share all the details I have with you – so without further ado, let’s get started!
2022 Apple Watch SE Design
Not to be that guy, but if you were somehow expecting a new design, forget about it. My sources say that all the internal prototypes they’ve seen that were directly labeled as the “Apple Watch SE 2022” looked exactly like the 2020 edition.
There might be a few differences, but nothing you’d notice right away and definitely nothing my sources have seen.
There will be the same 40mm and 44mm versions and don’t expect it to be available in materials other than aluminum.
2022 Apple Watch SE Features and Specs
This is where it gets interesting. I’ve talked to a few people involved with internals, and they’ve all seen different prototypes with different components, but most seem to agree on one thing: there will be a significant improvement over the 2020 model.
I’m told that the new Apple Watch SE will feature the S7 chip (which, by the way, is just the S6, but has been renamed). Plus, there will be even more improvements like always-on display technology, better audio, and a new sensor that will allow the Apple Watch to take ECGs.
I don’t think it’ll have a blood oxygen sensor, although that’s not confirmed.
I’m told there will be no changes to the battery life, and it’ll stay at 18 hours, although it’s possible it’ll have the same fast charging technology as the Series 7. But I don’t expect any other changes.
2022 Apple Watch SE Pricing and Availability
I have some bad news for you: people familiar with the matter suggest that Apple will raise the price of SE by $20, so it’ll now apparently start at $299 – say thanks to inflation. That’s not a big deal, but I still hope I’m wrong.
My understanding is that Apple isn’t expecting a production delay. So if the Series 8 doesn’t have any issues, which I doubt it will, we should be back to a more normal shipping schedule compared to the last release.
Conclusions
I have to say that I’m impressed with this. Apple is known for skimping on SE iPhones, but for some reason the company wants to nail this Apple Watch SE. From what I’ve heard, the only difference between the Series 8 and the SE will be the blood oxygen monitor, the slightly larger display, better speakers, and a few other things, but it will cost $100 less.
I’m definitely looking forward to this device, and while I usually tend to buy the high-end model over the SE, I might think twice if it goes the way it looks now. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted if I hear anything new about it.
