Did Barbra Streisand Just Leak the iOS 10 and iPhone 7 Release Dates?

Of all the people that could have leaked the iPhone 7’s release date, Barbra Streisand probably isn’t the first person that comes to mind, but she might have done just that, according to new reports.

Streisand reportedly made a phone call to Apple CEO Tim Cook with concerns about Siri’s inability to pronounce her name correctly, according to Uproxx. But amid a humorous and light-hearted story, eagle-eared listeners of a recent NPR interview noticed something: Streisand mentioned that Apple would fix Siri’s pronunciation problems in an “update” slated for September 30.

This is significant because, if we look back on past iOS releases, they’ve all been rolled out on, or near, new iPhone launches. As Uproxx points out, iOS 9 was released September 16 — with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launching a week afterward. iOS 8 was rolled out September 17, with the iPhone 6 launching two days later.

Also relevant is the fact that all of these dates land on a Friday — and September 30 falls on a Friday this year.

Of course, we can’t be entirely sure if Apple’s September 30 “update” will actually be iOS 10. In fact, the new operating system is actually expected to be released a few weeks earlier. So if it’s not iOS 10 — and it doesn’t coincide with the iPhone 7’s release date — what is Streisand talking about?

Well, she might have been told by Apple that iOS 10 — and the Siri fix — would be released by the end of September, AppleInsider theorized. Another likely explanation is that Apple is already planning a patch to iOS 10 that would be available on September 30.

So whether Streisand is correct or not remains to be seen, but we’ll surely find out next month, won’t we?
