It hasn’t even been a year since Apple released the current MacBook Air with the ultra-fast M1 chip, but it seems the company’s already working on an all-new model that will be thinner, more powerful, and feature a fresh design.

There have been rumors about this new MacBook Air for a few months now. The first “official” look came from leaker Jon Prosser, who showed the first renders of this new MacBook. At the time, we didn’t know it was going to be a MacBook Air; we just assumed it was because of the size and similar design.

Now, we have a little more information about this upcoming MacBook thanks to Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg, who’s also well-known for revealing what Apple is working on and which products we’ll see in the future.

A High-End MacBook Air

Both Gurman and Prosser share similar details about the new MacBook Air. And if these rumors are true, Apple’s working on a higher-end model like nothing we’ve seen before.

The new MacBook Air is said to feature two USB-C Ports like the current models, but what’s different is that it will have one port on each side, similar to what we see on the MacBook Pro.

Some rumors suggest the new MacBook will feature a successor to the M1 chip, which many speculate will be called either the M2 or M1X chip.

Additionally, rumor has it that Apple will bring back MagSafe to the MacBook Air. MagSafe is a magnetically attached power connector that was used to power the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air and was first introduced in 2006 but discontinued years later in 2016.

Apple allegedly discussed the possibility of making a bigger 15-inch MacBook Air, but the company ultimately decided against it. Instead, this new MacBook Air will feature the same 13-inch display but is reducing its bezels, similar to what we saw in the 2021 iMac.

Prosser added the new Macbook Air might also be even thinner than the current model, although it’ll lose its tapered design.

Prosser also mentioned that this MacBook Air would come in many different colors, similar to the new iMac.

When Will We See This New MacBook Air?

As of right now, there isn’t an exact release date, but most rumors suggest that we might see this new MacBook Air in the second half of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

Rumors also say that Apple’s working on a new MacBook Pro that will come in 14- and 16-inches, which will also feature the next-generation Apple Silicon chip, which might launch during the second half of this year, too.
