Since they were first announced in 2016, AirPods have become Earth’s most popular wireless earbuds. The concept is simple: effortless and reliable connection, portability, solid battery life, and decent sound quality – and the Cupertino-based company continues to work on and further develop AirPods to maintain their top spot. Right now, Apple is focused on the AirPods Pro 2.

I’ve read a lot of Tweets and articles about AirPods Pro 2, so I figured I should write a report covering everything you need to know about these latest wireless earbuds Apple is working on. Here’s what’s going on.

New AirPods Pro 2 Features and Changes

When I last wrote about this, I told you that Apple engineers were working on two prototypes. One of them featured stems, and the other didn’t. I am telling you this because I have an update:

After talking about it with sources who wish to remain anonymous, it seems like Apple engineers have discarded the design that included stems.

However, this doesn’t mean the final product won’t have stems. It all depends on whether the engineers manage to fit everything inside the new design. If they can’t, they’ll most likely go back to the prototype with stems or maybe look for a completely new design.

This is yet to be decided, and I should have a definitive answer by April.

Sound Better Than Bluetooth + ANC Improvements

As far as I know, the Active Noise Cancellation technology will be vastly improved. Thanks to new software currently being developed, and enhanced hardware, this feature will isolate people better while minimizing that feeling of pressure some people experience with the AirPods Pro and many other noise-canceling earphones. I am hearing this will be one of the key points used by the marketing team when the AirPods Pro 2 are released.

Some sources have told me they believe Apple engineers are working on their own protocol to substitute Bluetooth and solve its sound quality limitations.

The drivers won’t be remarkably better, but the sound quality will be a day and night difference compared to the AirPods Pro because of this new protocol.

Apple won’t drop Bluetooth in case someone wants to pair them with an Android device, PC, or something else, but Apple’s protocol will be prioritized when the AirPods are connected to an iPhone.

Don’t expect crazy battery life improvements. Due to the new protocol being developed and the design changes, I predict the battery life will stay as it is now. There might be some changes to the case’s battery, but definitely not to the earbuds’ batteries.

AirPods Pro 2 Price and Release Date

The AirPods Pro 2 will be priced at around $279, and it’s about the same as the release price of the AirPods Pro, but adjusted to inflation and other costs.

As far as I’m concerned, Apple and its partners have agreed to start the AirPods Pro production in early May, even though the release is scheduled for late September or early October. The reason behind this is to have enough stock to meet with demand once they are announced and avoid supply issues.

So far, these new AirPods Pro 2 sound amazing. I will buy them, and I can’t wait to have them with me. Let me know what you think about them in the comments below. I hope you found this article helpful. As always, have a nice day.
