AirPods 2 rumors have been circulating the web like wildfire, and now a new rumor has given Apple fans even more reason to be excited.

According to Max Weinbach, XDA developer and prominent leaker, AirPods 2 will include wireless charging capabilities using the Qi standard as previously expected – however, the more exciting news comes in the form of the device’s ultra-fast wireless charging.

While users could gain 3 hours of playback time from the original AirPods with just a 15-minute charge, AirPods 2 will be even more impressive.

According to Weinbach, wirelessly charging AirPods 2 will be “VERY fast.” Users will reportedly be able to charge their AirPods and their AirPods case from 0% to 100% in just 15 minutes.

There is a trade-off though. According to the source, the charging “case will be bigger in one direction.” We can assume that this means the AirPods 2 case will be thicker than the outgoing generation.

Weinbach also notes that AirPods 2 will be heavier than their predecessors, which isn’t all that surprising considering the new wireless charging tech that’s being built in.

Suppliers are already mass-producing the new models and rumors have corroborated that Apple’s new AirPods are expected to launch this year on March 29.

It’s possible that Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat could launch the same day; however, that’s unlikely considering the trove of difficulties the company has faced turning its charging mat concept into a reality.
