Interesting but unsurprisingly, a new report published this week confirms that new iPad models might actually be even closer than we think, as recent filings with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) appear to indicate no fewer than six new iPad models are coming soon.
As first spotted by MySmartPrice on Friday, the filings are for six new models of Apple-designed tablet computers certifying them for sale in Russia, according to the report.
The six new model numbers include A2123, A2124, A2133, A2152, A2153, and A2154, according to the publication, which noted their sequential, grouped nature suggesting there are at least two — but possibly three — different iPad models in store.
What Do These Numbers Mean?
For example, A2123 and A2124 could represent two variants of a single model, while A2133 could encompass another [possibly higher-tier] offering, and A2152-2154 could signify three new variants of a totally different iPad model.
While Apple’s 2019 iPad plans are still very preliminary — we don’t even know when to expect them — the publication of these model identifiers suggest they could be arriving in the relatively near future.
Given that Apple just launched its latest 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pros — with EEC filing numbers of A1876, A1980, and A1992, respectively — less than three months ago, it’s basically improbable to fathom these numbers representing new “Pro-grade” iPads.
That said, considering the latest non-Pro iPad update came back in March 2018 — as was the case with the previous budget-centric iPad (2017) before it — it’s reasonable to assume that whatever Apple’s got in store for us will make an appearance within the relative timeframe of early spring, 2019.
What to Expect?
According to the latest rumors, the company’s venerable, 9.7-inch form-factor may be refreshed, borrowing some (but not all) elements of its latest iPad Pros.
It will, purportedly, incorporate a larger display of 10-inches, packed within the same 9.7-inch shell (meaning the bezels will be much thinner) although the fate of other components, like Touch ID or Face ID, are still anyone’s best guess.
As for the iPad mini 5: well, if these leaked photos are indeed the real deal, then we’ve already seen what Apple’s pint-sized tablet will have to offer — although we’re still in the dark about what kind of upgrades it might include
