5 No Home Button
In recent years, Apple has taken to streamlining its flagship device. The iPhone 7 did away with the audio jack, and the iPhone 8 is largely expected to be the first Apple smartphone to nix the Home button. In its place, the iPhone 8 is predicted to have a “Function Area.” Aside from a virtual Home button, the Area could also sport other peripheral UI elements that’ll be contextual to certain apps — play/pause controls for music apps, and copy/paste controls for text apps, as examples.
Additionally, according to recent revelations pulled out of the HomePod firmware, the Function Area could also hide itself during certain instances, like when watching a full-screen video or other media. Although once widely predicted to be the location of an under-display fingerprint sensor, that option is looking less likely as we get closer to the iPhone 8’s debut (but more on that later).
