We all know the thrill of scoring a great deal. So while checking out my monthly expenses, my wireless carrier suddenly stood out to me. Was I paying too much for cell phone service? The short answer is yes. Yes, I was.
For more context, there is fierce competition in the wireless space that is driving down the cost of cellular service further than ever before. Basically, there are fantastic deals to be had – and now is the time to make the switch.
Price is an important factor in any purchase, but so is quality. My goal was to get the best cellular service for the least amount of money – and with that goal in mind, I narrowed my search down to one final contender: Mint Mobile. I’ve been using Mint Mobile now for three weeks. Here is my honest review.
Mint Mobile Coverage and Service Quality
Mint Mobile is an MVNO that runs on T-Mobile’s reliable, nationwide 5G/4G LTE network. Before I joined Mint this year, I had been a T-Mobile customer since 2015 – back when the company’s service reliability was hit or miss. However, T-Mobile improved its coverage each year to the point where it works flawlessly in my city. I didn’t leave T-Mobile because of its service, I left because of its cost.
[MVNO means Mobile Virtual Network Operator. An MVNO doesn’t own the infrastructure the wireless service runs on but instead leases spectrum access from one or more of the major carriers. Because MVNOs have little overhead and other expenses, they’re able to pass savings on to the consumer.]
By switching to Mint Mobile, you’ll get T-Mobile’s excellent coverage, speed, and service quality at a fraction of the price. It’s a no-brainer.
Using Mint, apps and webpages load incredibly quickly, text messages haven’t failed and calls haven’t dropped. Even while traveling through the deserts of Nevada, I could still check Facebook and stream Apple Music.
Mint Mobile even allows you to browse at 5G speeds for no additional cost. Those who live in rural areas might not get the best results, so check Mint’s coverage map to see if it’s available in your region.
Mint Mobile Plans and Pricing
All of Mint Mobile’s plans come with unlimited calls, unlimited texts, nationwide coverage, and 5G/4G LTE data. You’ll also get free calling to Canada and Mexico.
The data cap and length of service is where your options come in. Basically, the longer you prepay, the better monthly rate you can lock-in. Currently, Mint is offering three months of service for just $15 per month. You can secure this ultra-low rate simply by renewing for 12 months.
I chose the 12-month plan with 8GB of data, which averages out to be just $20 per month, per line. Check your last wireless billing statement to see how much data you’ll need each month.
Note that if you use more data than you’ve allotted, you won’t be cut off – your data speeds will only be slowed down. Although you can purchase more 5G/4G LTE data for the month if you need it. Overseas calling and roaming data is also available.
After three weeks, I’ve used less than two gigabytes of data – and so 8GB will be more than enough for me. Overall, when it comes to plans and pricing, Mint Mobile is an incredible value.
Mint Mobile Review | Final Thoughts
Mint Mobile is incredibly easy to set up and use. For me, the call quality and overall service has been perfect and performs exactly the same as T-Mobile in my area. 5G is also included at no additional cost, which is perfect if you own a newer phone that supports it, like Apple’s iPhone 12 or Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Flip.
My household will save over $800 this year simply by making the switch to Mint Mobile. Mint Mobile is a fantastic value proposition that I can personally recommend to anyone who lives within Mint’s expansive coverage area.
