Whereas most of the tech community is currently buzzing with news and rumors about the features we could expect to see in Apple’s forthcoming ‘iPhone 7,’ the latest rumor, so it seems, aims to shed some much needed light on the actual design characteristics of the devices’ outermost layers.

The report, which comes to us courtesy of MacRumors, citing “reliable sources,” claims that Apple has some big (and, uhh, not so big) surprises in store for us when it comes to the iPhone 7’s physical design elements.

The foremost among them, according to MacRumor’s sources, is that Apple plans to revert to the flush camera set-up in the forthcoming iPhone. This means that, unlike on the iPhone 6/6 Plus & 6s/6s Plus handsets, the camera on the iPhone 7 will be smooth, embedded within the outer shell — as opposed to protruding just a wee bit as is currently the case.

The other rumor has to do with the physical antenna bands — you know, those slightly off color strips that span the top and bottom half of the iPhone 6/6s. Well they could be going away, according to the report, in favor of the company relocating those antenna bands to the perimeter of the device — which could actually make for a sleeker, more streamlined appearance.

Interesting enough, though, the report also claims that, aside from the aforementioned changes, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are to be relatively unchanged from Apple’s current iPhone 6/6s handsets. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to this effect, because, historically speaking, Apple has dramatically revamped the physical design of its “whole number” handsets — which we saw in the case of the iPhone 4, 5, 6, and, well, we’re just hoping 7 sticks to tradition…
