VLC Media Player is one of the most popular media players across all platforms. Free and open source, VLC supports almost any type of audio and video format you can think of (sometimes even playing damaged, corrupted, or incomplete files), and offers incredible streaming capabilities across networks. However, the popular player has only been available in the App Store sporadically.

VLC was first introduced to the App Store in 2010, but was pulled several months later due to licensing issues. It re-appeared in 2013 with faster performance and several new features (including syncing via Wi-Fi and Dropbox), only to be pulled again shortly after the release of iOS 8 – this time with no explanation.

However, it appears as if VLC will soon be available for your iOS devices again. Felix Paul Kuehne, lead developer of VideoLan (the creators of VLC Media Player) recently posted on the VideoLan forums that a new version of the player had been approved by Apple and will be available at the App Store soon. Although no specific date was stated, reports indicate that the app should be available within the next couple of weeks.
