Digital car keys for select General Motors vehicles could soon appear in your Apple Wallet, according to MacRumors, which recently discovered code showing GM-specific settings in Apple’s internal list of Car Key-compatible vehicles.

This follows an announcement at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where Apple shared a list of 13 automakers — including Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC — that have committed to adopting the feature. It seems that GM isn’t wasting any time getting on board, which is a pleasant surprise considering its stance on CarPlay.

Others included in the 2025 WWDC announcement are Acura, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah.

Following Apple’s announcement in June, GM also shared that digital car keys would be coming to select Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac models, though it didn’t specify which ones, saying only that it would share more details when it launches new vehicles. Industry sources, including a report from GMAuthority, suggest the feature will debut with the 2026 Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV — although GM hasn’t formally confirmed those models.

Apple’s Car Key system lets iPhone and Apple Watch users add eligible digital keys to the Wallet app, allowing them to lock, unlock, and even start their vehicles without a physical fob. When Apple first unveiled Car Key at WWDC in 2020, it named only one launch partner, BMW. Apple made it clear that others would eventually join the initiative, but that took longer than many expected.

It probably didn’t help that the initial implementation relied on NFC technology, which made it less convenient than most traditional key fobs, since it required holding your device within an inch or two of the car door, and then placing your iPhone in a specific spot to start the ignition. However, even after the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) added Ultra Wideband (UWB) support in the Digital Key Release 3.0 spec and Apple embraced it in iOS 15, it remained exclusive to BMW vehicles until early 2022, when Hyundai announced it would be coming to Genesis and Kia vehicles, starting with the GV60.

Apple also announced earlier this year that Voyah and Smart vehicles would gain Car Key support. Backend integration for both brands has been spotted, but the functionality has yet to go live.

Existing Vehicles Offering Car Key Support

Apple doesn’t maintain a separate list of vehicles that support Car Key. Instead, it marks Car Key compatible vehicles with a small key icon on the much longer list of those that support CarPlay, and it’s not always completely up to date with every manufacturer’s latest models. Here’s a combined rundown of what Apple lists and what’s been reported elsewhere.

Upcoming Automakers Adding Car Key Support

During its WWDC 2025 keynote, Apple announced that the following 13 automakers would “soon” offer vehicle models with iPhone car key compatibility:

  • Acura
  • Chevrolet
  • Cadillac
  • GMC
  • Porsche
  • Rivian
  • Smart
  • Lucid Motors
  • Tata Motors
  • Hongqi
  • WEY
  • Chery
  • Voyah

The more car manufacturers that support Car Key, the better. One of the best aspects of this feature is that it allows users to share a digital key with other family members or friends via iMessage, Mail, AirDrop, or even WhatsApp. With some vehicles, you can even attach restrictions to a shared key, giving parents a little more peace of mind — and some control — when teens borrow the car.
