Just recently, Verizon Wireless reinstated its popular FREE data program — under the terms of which eligible customers can receive 24 GB of data for free each year. In order to qualify for the promotion, new and existing customers have to activate at least one line on Big Red’s monthly installment pricing program.

Additionally, you’ll have to upgrade to either the XL or XXL data plans, which feature 12 GB of data for $80/month (14 GB with the promo), and 18 GB of data for $100/month (20 GB with the promo), respectively.

As if that weren’t enough of an incentive to upgrade, the promotion, according to Verizon, applies to each active smartphone line on an XL or XXL plan.

In other words, if you have a family plan with 4 lines of service and decide to upgrade to XL or XXL, you’ll be receiving a whopping 96 GB of extra, free data each year. The company is also touting that the program is for life, meaning that, once you enroll, you’re locked in for the rest of your days — or until you decide to jump ship, if you do.

The additional data will be added to your existing data pool each month — in the form of 2 GB per line, per month.

Verizon had the following to say on its website:

“Whether you’re an existing customer or switching over from another provider with a poor network, you’ll receive 24 GB of bonus data every year when you upgrade or activate a new phone with device payment on XL or larger Verizon Plans. Available for a limited time, the 24 GB of bonus data is added as 2 GB of monthly bonus data and is shareable.”

On the opposite end of the wireless spectrum, AT&T is currently offering customers who switch from a competing carrier up to $650 per line to get out of their existing contracts. This promo is similar to one offered by Verizon back in December.

In order to qualify for this offer, customers will have to switch to AT&T from one of the company’s competitors, hand over their existing smartphone at the register, and sign up for AT&T’s Next program — which is essentially Ol’ Blue’s marketing term for its monthly installment pricing program.

Additionally, AT&T is still trying to push its long-standing Buy One Get One promotion, under the terms of which customers who purchase an iPhone can get another iPhone — free of charge — by activating an additional line of service on their account. The deal was initially brought to market back in December of last year, however only recently has it included Apple’s iPhone as an option.
