Texters rejoiced in 2014 when the middle finger emoji was introduced in Unicode 7.0. Now, there’s another reason to celebrate – that’s right, the internet’s favorite food, bacon, has been approved for a new emoji set to be introduced this coming summer.

Up to 74 new emoji will be included in the Unicode 9 emoji set, which have already been approved by the Unicode Consortium. While it’s not 100% certain that all 74 will make the cut, odds are that we will see every one of them when the set is released in June.

012216-UNICODE9-2The bacon emoji will be joined by a host of other foods, including an avocado, baguette, croissant, pickle, carrot, salad, potato, and more. A fencer and pair of wrestlers will join the party, along with a water polo player, a boxing glove, and a martial arts uniform.

Several animals will also join the mix, including a gorilla, fox, owl, shark, and bat. Several character emojis will be introduced, as well, including a sneezing face, pregnant woman, a cowboy, and a clown. The entire set will be rounded out nicely with a bro-fist and a nice glass of whiskey. The entire list is available, complete with beta mock-ups at the official Unicode site.

The new emoji are chosen by the Unicode Consortium “based on popular request, gender-matching pairs, and compatibility with emoticons in existing platforms.” The new set won’t be available until the official release of Unicode 9 this coming June. The good news for iOS users is, the set will likely be made available in iOS 10, rumored for official release in September.

Let us know what your favorite emoji out of the new set is, and feel free to add suggestions for new emoji in the comments.
