Legendary Apple Designer Jony Ive Jumps from iPhones to Ferraris

From iPhones to Ferraris. According to Motor Authority, that’s the latest move for former Apple designer Jony Ive and his business partner Marc Newson. The duo who co-founded LoveFrom announced this partnership with Ferrari in a recently released press statement. Details on what the pair will be designing were not detailed, but given their talent, it likely will be spectacular.

It’s not a surprising jump for world-renowned Apple designer Jony Ive and former Apple industrial engineer Marc Newson. Newson designed a Ferrari engine stand for a Ferrari artbook launch in 2018 and races classic Ferrari models.

Both designers are Ferrari owners and are enthusiastic about working together with the Ferrari team led by Flavio Manzoni.

“We have been friends with John for many years and are great admirers of his insight and vision. We are thrilled to be embarking on such an important, long term collaboration with Ferrari and more broadly Exor. As Ferrari owners and collectors, we could not be more excited about collaborating with this extraordinary company and in particular with the design team expertly led by Flavio Manzoni. We see some uniquely exciting opportunities working together which we believe will yield important and valuable work.”

LoveFrom

Known for his work on the iPhone and Mac, Ive joined Apple in 1994 and stayed with the company until he left Apple in 2019. Ive departed and joined forces with Marc Newson, another Apple industrial engineer who left the company at the same time. Ive and Newson formed a new company LoveFrom, which allows the pair to work on creative projects that are much different from their previous computer and mobile-focused work at Apple.

This partnership isn’t the first tie-up between Apple and Ferrari. In 2012, the sports car manufacturer appointed Apple software lead Eddy Cue to its board of directors.

LoveFrom also will be working with Ferrari parent company Exor on other luxury brand products.
