Since Apple Pay was introduced a year and a half ago, it has become the biggest mobile payment system on earth. According to Business Insider, Apple Pay is now bringing in roughly one million new users per week, and that “transaction volumes are ‘five times higher’ than at this point one year ago.”

Millions of grocers, gas stations, clothing stores, electronics retailers, restaurants, coffee shops, banks, entertainment venues and more around the world are accepting Apple Pay. And now popular department chain Kohl’s has announced that they will be the first retailer to integrate their rewards program with the Apple Pay mobile payment service.

Kohl’s issued a press release this morning stating that its customers can now pay for their purchases with their Kohl’s Charge credit cards while earning “Yes2You” rewards via Apple Pay. According to the press release, the service is “currently available in approximately 250 Kohl’s stores and is expected to be in all Kohl’s stores nationwide later this month.” The service is available to any user with both their Kohl’s Charge and Yes2You cards added to their Wallet App in their iPhone.

Kohl’s was the first retailer to introduce Apple Pay support for a store-branded credit card back in October of 2015, a feature that has only been added by one other retailer (BJ’s Wholesale Club) since. In the press release issued today, Kohl’s chief technology officer Ratnakar Lavu stated, “Kohl’s is blending the physical and digital shopping experience in more ways than ever before.

Offering conveniences to Kohl’s customers that make it easy for them – like a seamless one-tap checkout in Apple Pay that integrates our value-driven Yes2You Rewards loyalty program – is one of the ways that we are leading as an omni-channel retailer.” He continued, stating that Kohl’s is “continuing to innovate in mobile to provide an easy, seamless shopping experience whether it’s our mobile payment offerings, the features and functionality on Kohl’s mobile app or the Kohl’s.com experience on smartphones and tablets.”

Although Kohl’s is certainly ahead of the game with their Apple Pay integration, the mobile payment service is becoming more and more convenient. 20 more banks nationwide have added Apple Pay support – and now nearly every major bank in the country supports the mobile payment service. Retailers have been a bit more reluctant to add support, but with popular chains such as Chick-Fil-A, Crate & Barrel, Zappo’s, Dominos, and Cinnabon rolling out support later this year, it’s only a matter of time before every major retailer in the US is accepting Apple Pay as a form of payment.
