Chinese regulatory filings which were submitted recently with the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have revealed a number of key and previously-unknown details about Apple’s latest iPhone XS and XR models, including numerical battery and RAM memory values.

iPhone XS Battery mAh

The filings, which were first uncovered by Chinese blog MyDrivers, interestingly reveal that Apple’s iPhone XS is equipped with a 2,658 mAh battery. That battery is actually smaller than the 2,716 mAh battery found in its predecessor, the iPhone X.

Though it could easily be considered negligible, this 58 mAh reduction is actually quite unusual. Not just considering that iPhone XS and iPhone X are the same size, dimensionally, but also because Apple explicitly stated that iPhone XS is able to provide even more usage time (up to an additional 30 minutes) in comparison to iPhone X.

Of course, Apple could be factoring in the bold battery performance improvements iOS 12 has to offer, but only time will tell how the iPhone XS truly compares to its predecessor through day-to-day usage and testing.

iPhone XS Max Battery mAh

Meanwhile, to complement its absolutely massive 6.5-inch OLED display, Apple’s iPhone XS Max is equipped an equally massive 3,174 mAh battery. According to Apple, though the super-sized iPhone’s display will use the most battery power, this configuration will provide users with even more usage time compared to iPhone X (an additional 1.5-hours).

iPhone XR Battery mAh

Last but not least, Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD-equipped iPhone XR is slated to offer 1.5-hours or longer of additional battery life in comparison to its most direct predecessor, the iPhone 8 Plus.

Though it features a battery with just 2,942 mAh — essentially right in-between its smaller and bigger siblings, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max — it’s reasonable to assume that the iPhone XR’s longer battery life claims are associated with its use of an new LRD display, as opposed to the OLED panels used on the iPhone XS models.

The iPhone XR’s smaller, 6.1-inch screen — in comparison to the 6.5-inch stunner used on the iPhone XS Max — might also play a hand in reducing power consumption.

RAM Improvements

Another significant revelation worth noting is that all three of Apple’s 2018 iPhone models sport additional RAM memory in comparison to their direct predecessors.

Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are equipped with 4 GB of RAM, while the iPhone XR is equipped with 3 GB of RAM.

Notably, these values are higher than previous iPhone releases, such as last year’s iPhone X, which boasted 3 GB of RAM. The iPhone 8 came with just 2 GB of RAM.
