With the arrival of the iPhone 7 drawing closer, we are beginning to see more allegedly leaked photos and videos of the device, each working to confirm or deny popular rumors surrounding the phone. However, many of the leaked photos and videos are of very low quality or, even worse, are faked. Just recently, however, we’ve begun to catch a good, high-quality glimpse of what the iPhone 7 may look like via dummy units.

iPhone dummy units are usually created for third-party manufacturers to design cases and other accessories for ahead of the release of phones. Apple itself does not design or authorize the dummy units, so some are simply based off of speculation and rumors. Some, however, are supposedly assembled using leaked parts from Apple factories, which would, of course, place them much closer to the real thing.

Late last week, several photos and videos allegedly showcasing iPhone 7 dummy units surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo. The photos put the new cameras on display – with the iPhone 7 featuring the oft-rumored larger camera lens for better low-light performance and the iPhone 7 Plus featuring the dual lens system, and the video showcasing the lack of headphone port and redesigned antenna lines that we’ve heard so much about. Neither the photos nor the video, however, show a Space Black model or the capacitive home button we’ve been hearing about lately.

Just yesterday, more videos showcasing dummy iPhone 7 devices surfaced, this time of much higher quality. YouTuber Jonathon Morrison, who often features Apple and Mac reviews and unboxing videos on his channel, posted a video titled “iPhone 7 Clone Unboxing”. The video features a very nice looking gold “iPhone 7 clone”, which Morrison compares side by side with an iPhone 6s. The lack of a headphone jack, redesigned antenna lines, and larger camera lens are all put on display very clearly. Once again, however, the video only displays the rear casing of the device, so we don’t get a look at the home button on the front.

In Morrison’s video, he urges you to check out another video published yesterday by Austin Evans, who goes into a bit more depth with a comparison between an iPhone 6s and an iPhone 7 dummy model. Evans focuses in on the larger camera hole, even taking calipers to both devices to measure the camera bump (the iPhone 7 device, while a bit smaller, has a bit of a larger camera bump), and puts the lack of headphone jack and second set of speakers on display. Evans also attempts to place an iPhone 7 into an iPhone 6s case, and although the device fits, the cutouts for the camera hole don’t line up, and the now-unnecessary cutout for the headphone jack is still present.

Once again, these dummy models likely don’t come directly from Apple, and may contain some discrepancies from the actual device once it’s released. And neither address the rumors of the capacitive home button, waterproofing, or a number of other rumored features surrounding the device. However, according to most resources, these photos and videos are the first real look at what the device will more than likely look like once they launch this coming September.

Do these units portray the iPhone 7 that you were hoping for? Or do these look like utter disappointment? Let us know in the comments below!
