Nowadays, it’s really hard to keep up with everything your Mac can do. Apple continues to add new features with every software update, making it difficult to keep track of it all.

A great example of a feature that not many people are aware of is Hot Corners. Even though this isn’t a new feature, it wouldn’t be surprising if you have never used Hot Corners on your Mac. However, if you aren’t using it, you’re missing out on a cool and useful shortcut that you could end up loving.

If you want to start using Hot Corners on your Mac, here’s everything you need to know.

What Are Hot Corners on Mac?

While the name it’s a bit strange, Hot Corners is a useful feature available on all Macs. This feature lets you turn your screen’s corner into, well, a hot corner.

What does that mean, you ask? You can use your corners as shortcuts or do quick actions.

For instance, if you already have macOS Monterey installed, the bottom right corner of your Mac screen will automatically open the new Quick Notes feature. But that raises the question…

How Do You Use Hot Corners?

Hot Corners is probably the simplest Mac feature to use. All you need to do is take your mouse or Trackpad and move your cursor to one of the corners. Then, your Mac will automatically run the action you have set on that hot corner, like locking your screen or opening Quick Notes.

What Actions Can Hot Corners Do?

There are many actions to choose from, and you can have up to four actions at the same time, including:

  1. Start a screen saver
  2. Disable your screen saver
  3. Show or hide Mission Control
  4. Show or hide app windows
  5. Show or hide your desktop
  6. Show or hide Notification Center
  7. Show or hide the Launchpad
  8. Put your display to sleep
  9. Lock your Mac
  10. Open Quick Notes

How to Enable or Disable Hot Corners

If you want to start using Hot Corners, just follow these steps:

  1. On your Mac, click the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click on Desktop & Screen Saver.
  4. Make sure you’re on the Screen Saver tab.
  5. At the bottom right corner of the window, click on Hot Corners.
  6. Click on the corner you want to use.
  7. Select the action you want that Hot Corner to do.
  8. Once you’re done, click Ok.

And that’s it! You can try your Hot Corners whenever you want, even if you have an app open. If you want, you can always go back and change the Hot Corners settings.
