In response to Amazon’s Prime Day, its annual July 12 holiday which rewards Prime subscribers with a host of sales promotions, Walmart has declared that shipping will be free on all orders for the rest of this workweek. There are no minimum purchase prices or other caveats attached to this promotion, and all customers shopping on its website are eligible to take advantage of it.

Prior to this deal, online shoppers had to meet a $50 order minimum before enjoying free shipping on the Walmart website.

The move is a jab squarely aimed at countering Prime Day’s biggest draw, namely the free two-day shipping it provides for the millions of items available on its website. In a press statement which was shared by The Verge, Walmart took the opportunity to tout the longer duration of its shipping deal: We believe saving money every day is better than just one, and that all customers should save, not only some”.

Walmart clearly hopes that the move will augment its flagging online sales and bolster its e-commerce business, which has been dwarfed by Amazon’s success. It is facing a stiff competitor in Amazon, which has improved the inventory of items eligible for Prime Day deals, which in turn have become more generous and attractive.

In the battle between retail giants, Walmart is also taking this opportunity to promote its new ShippingPass service as a cheaper alternative to Amazon Prime. ShippingPass members enjoy free two-day shipping on all purchases all year long for an annual $49 subscription fee, whereas a year-long Amazon Prime subscription has a $99 price tag.
