More electric bikes enter the market each year, but the new Mando Footloose IM stands out for many reasons, not least its looks. The Footloose IM features a sleek design that hides all of its major parts within the frame and a chainless drive system that promises a sweat-free commute.

Combined with its bright and sunny color scheme, the Footloose IM’s minimalist design concept and chainless look make it a futuristic and eye-catching mode of transport, especially on city streets crowded with older bicycles.

The Footloose is perfect for urban-dwellers who lack the space for cars, providing a compact and reliable mode of alternative transportation for their daily commutes. The bike runs on a 36-volt, 8.2 aH lithium-ion battery that lasts 37 miles on a single charge, which should be more than ample enough to zip you downtown to work and back on a given workday. Just start pedaling and the motion will start the battery via an alternator crank, which will in turn power the 250-watt rear hub motor.

Unlike its predecessor, the Footloose IM is not foldable, which may make it more difficult to store at work and at home. That being said, its frame is much lighter than its forebear and its battery is removable, allowing you to charge it while you leave the frame locked outside.

There are two minor drawbacks worth mentioning and considering before you purchase it. The first is its hefty price tag of $3,050, which is expensive, though moderately priced as far as e-bikes go. It may be worth it if it’ll save you on car insurance and gas.

The second is the fact that once the battery dies, the bike is rendered completely unrideable. While pedaling does apparently help charge the battery, it does so to a negligible degree and cannot compensate for a dead battery, at which point you’re stuck. If the prospect of having your bicycle sputter out and die on you in the middle of the street makes you anxious, you may want to look for alternatives. Otherwise, owners of the Footloose IM can simply make sure to charge the battery each night so they can confidently zoom around city streets the following day.
