Since as far back as 2016, patents, rumors and reports have been swirling around Samsung’s ongoing development of the world’s first truly foldable smartphone. A truly revolutionary device, the South Korean tech-giant’s has been pegged in some reports to ship featuring a massive 7.3-inch OLED display, which will literally (and physically) be capable of bending and folding in half like the ultimate high-tech taco..

Most of these preliminary reports, meanwhile, appear to have coalesced around the idea that Samsung will market its upcoming foldable smartphone under a new ‘Galaxy X’ branding.

Whether in spite of Apple’s popular iPhone X, or simply of its own volition, we may never know. But we’ve been lead to believe that Samsung is right now readying its Galaxy X ahead of a potential unveiling at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, with a small-scale commercial launch possibly following within the first few months of next year.

Galaxy X Rumors

Puzzlingly, a credible rumor surfaced earlier this week suggesting Samsung is also working on a non-foldable, gaming-centric smartphone which could likewise debut in the first-half of 2019 — and that said device could actually be the company’s unannounced Galaxy X.

Meanwhile, a separate report published by The Wall Street Journal this week appeared to mash-up all of Samsung’s plans into one, suggesting that the company’s foldable smartphone with a massive OLED display will in fact be targeted towards gamers — although the otherwise credible publication didn’t offer any product names in its reporting.

Given the conflicting analysis, it’s unclear what Samsung actually plans to name its upcoming foldable and non-foldable smartphone devices. But alas, even more clues surfaced courtesy of the same Chinese leaker who outed the original info about Samsung’s non-foldable gaming phone.

Galaxy F Rumors

In a separate Tweet this week, Ice Universe offered that the foldable device may or may not be christened ‘Galaxy F’, as originally hinted in a blog post by SamMobile.

The publication notes that back in 2013, rumors first surfaced about a “super premium” Galaxy F lineup which would eventually join Samsung’s Galaxy S and Note lineups as its own, even higher-tier family of offerings. Of course, that never happened — at least not until this day… But now that the Galaxy F moniker has resurfaced, it certainly begs the question: Does F in Galaxy F stand for foldable? Seems likely.

Lending further credence to the likelihood is yet another Tweet published by Ice Universe in which the leaker appears to backtrack on his initial speculation, corroborating the findings in SamMobile’s original report and saying he is now sure the Galaxy F is “indeed the folding Galaxy phone” Samsung plans to unveil early next year.

Of course, there’s a lot of conflicting details here regarding what Samsung’s foldable and non-foldable devices will actually be called.. We know a few mouth-watering details about the amazing Galaxy S10 and S10+, but as far as the Galaxy F, or Galaxy X, or Galaxy B52 is pertinent, we probably won’t know for sure until the device(s) are showcased early next year.
