For those looking to add some artistry to their Instagram photos, a new Russian start-up called Prisma offers users the ability to morph pictures to appear as if they were painted by great artists like Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and many more.

Prisma uses an AI system that avoids filters and instead uses a technology called Convolution Neural Networks, which allows the AI to reinterpret the new image using the original photo only as a guide. Prisma will be the first app of its kind to redevelop a photo in an original style, a completely revolutionary concept that differs from any other picture-altering app on the market today. Interestingly, it only took a month and a half to develop Prisma in full.

Right now, the app has only 20 styles for consumers to choose from. As more users input images into Prisma the painting algorithm will further improve the naturalness of the styles. Developers at Prisma feel that in time their app will truly show what it is capable of, but as of now, the app is currently still developing its algorithm from its first users.

Although the algorithm isn’t fully developed, Prisma is still wildly popular for an app that was released just two weeks ago. In the first week of its release, Prisma was downloaded over 650,000 times by iPhone users alone. iPhone users can download the app here. Prisma is set to be released for Android by July.
