Is your PlayStation 4 beeping sporadically throughout the night? Does your system attempt to eject discs like it’s possessed?

Well, you’re not alone. Apparently a slew of PS4 owners have experienced the same thing. Enough of them, in fact, to warrant Sony putting out an official video to make the problem stop.

The beeping is typically related to a false reading of the eject button, or a problem with a PlayStation’s disc sensor, according to some PS4 owners.

This usually occurs with PS4s that are equipped with touch-sensitive eject and power buttons.

Newer model PS4s with physical power and eject buttons seem to do away with this issue.

But if you’re the owner of a randomly beeping PS4, here’s how to stop it, according to Sony.

  1. Hold down the power button on your PlayStation 4.
  2. Wait until two beeps are heard.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Unplug the console for three minutes.
  5. Plug the console back in.
  6. Start up your console again, and see if this fixes the issue.

Sony says that this should fix both the sporadic beeping and the ejecting disc issues.

Of course, if the problems persist even after this fix, it might mean that there is an actual issue with your console.

Some PS4 owners have even taken to removing the small rubber foot underneath the eject disc button, as it seems to be the cause in some cases. But take that advice with a grain of salt. Though dismantling part of your PS4 might not be a great idea, drastic times call for drastic measures.

In any case, if you’re still under warranty and the problem keeps happening, your PS4 might need to be serviced. So send it in if you can.
