Apple announced on Wednesday that Best Buy now offers Apple-authorized repair services at each and every one of its locations in the U.S.

That represents a massive expansion of Apple’s own Authorized Service Provider network. Best Buy currently has ~992 stores nationwide, Reuters reported.

Apple claims that there are three times as many certified repair locations as there were three years ago. All in all, the Cupertino tech giant says there are more than 1,800 Authorized Service Providers and 270 Apple Store locations across the U.S. for users to take advantage of.

The press release also notes that Best Buy’s own Geek Squad now has nearly 7,600 Apple-certified technicians, meaning that customers can now access same-day iPhone repairs or other repair services at the retailer’s brick-and-mortar locations.

“We’re always looking at how we can reliably expand our network of trained technicians and we’re excited to partner with every Best Buy store so it’s even easier for our customers to find an authorized repair location near them,” said Tara Bunch, Apple’s VP of AppleCare.

According to Apple, this means that eight out of 10 Apple customers will be within 20 minutes of an Apple-certified repair location.

How to Get Your Device Repaired at Best Buy

Initiating a repair at a Best Buy is basically the same as getting it repaired at another Apple-certified location. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Go to Apple’s repair website.
  2. Select the Apple product you’d like to get repaired.
  3. Indicate what kind of service you need for your device. In the next pane, you’ll also be asked what kind of physical damage the device has.
  4. From here, select Bring in for Repair.
  5. You’ll be prompted to log in with your Apple credentials.
  6. Once you’re logged in, you can now enter your location (and carrier if applicable).
  7. The Apple site will give you a list of local Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers — which now includes every Best Buy location near you.

Why This Matters

For Apple users, this move means that certified repairs are now much more easily accessible. That’s especially true for cities and regions that don’t have an Apple Store nearby.

Apple itself provides a few examples of communities that will benefit from the increased access to repair, including: Yuma, Arizona; Sioux City, Iowa; Twin Falls Idaho; Casper, Wyoming; and Bismarck, North Dakota.

This is important because it’s highly recommended that you only get your iPhones and other Apple devices repaired at Apple-certified locations.

Getting a device fixed at a third-party repair shop could result in your Apple warranty or AppleCare+ plan being voided. Also, there’s no guarantee that third-party repair shops will use quality parts or methods when they repair your device. It’s just a bad idea.

At Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Service Providers, and now at all Best Buy locations in the U.S., service technicians only use genuine Apple parts and every repair is backed by Apple.
