The latest joint album from Jay Z and Beyoncé, Everything is Love, was originally a Tidal exclusive. After two days, that’s no longer the case.

Everything is Love first debuted over the weekend on Tidal, the artist-owned streaming platform spearheaded by Jay Z. Again, after just two days as a Tidal exclusive, the album was made available on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms on Monday.

It’s currently available to stream, however a Spotify representative told Recode that the album will remain a “premium exclusive” for a couple weeks.

Basically, that means you’ll need a paid subscription to listen to it. That’s per a new deal that Spotify negotiated in exchange for better royalty rates, Recode reported.

Interestingly, the move flies in the face of the Carters’ previous streaming strategies. Jay Z and Beyoncé have taken to keeping their new releases on Tidal.

In fact, on one of the songs on Everything is Love, Beyoncé takes a shot at Spotify. On “NICE,” Beyoncé raps that if she “cared” about streaming numbers — to paraphrase — she would have put Lemonade on Spotify. (At this point, Lemonade is still a Tidal exclusive.)

Perhaps more importantly, the wider availability of Everything is Love doesn’t bode well for Tidal. Originally a streaming service meant to take on Spotify and other more popular platforms, there’s evidence that the artist-owned service is floundering.

Tidal hasn’t released an updated subscriber count since 2016. At the time, Jay Z said that Tidal has 3 million subscribers — but reports suggested that even that number might be inflated.

Spotify, by contrast, has over 70 million subscribers by last count. Apple Music reportedly has upwards of 40 million.

The album itself is a nine-track, 38-minute heavy hitter that explores “the intricacies of love,” as Complex points out. It also has a star-studded cast of featured artists, including Pharrell Williams, Quavo, Ty Dolla Sign and Boi-1da.

Basically, it’s what you’ve come to expect from the Carters. It’s worth a listen — especially now since you don’t need a Tidal subscription to do so.
