The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is underway in Las Vegas this week. The event includes everything from John Deere showing off autonomous agriculture equipment and Samsung debuting its “Home AI” smart network for home devices to a keynote from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
Although these household names typically steal the show at CES, other gems are often hidden away that don’t always share the spotlight. If you’re a baseball player, parent, or coach, there’s a cool new product from Korean company CaiqueTech that’s set to launch on Kickstarter this month — just in time for Spring Training!
PI SpeedGun by CaiqueTech is a “smart and modular” radar gun for baseball. The device plugs into an iPhone with a USB-C port. However, the device promises to do much more than measure speed. The PI SpeedGun connects to an app that tracks pitch location, records video, and analyzes performance over time. According to CaiqueTech, the PI SpeedGun reduces costs by 50% compared to traditional radar guns by leveraging the iPhone’s processing power and battery and decreases size and weight by 60%. Not bad!
Without having seen or reviewed the product, we like that the PI SpeedGun doesn’t just encourage kids to throw hard. Accuracy is nearly as important as fundamentals and technique to prevent injuries. We know youth sports are more competitive than ever before. It’s also expensive for many families.
Unfortunately, sports and extra training and coaching are cost-prohibitive for some young and talented athletes. So, we’re supportive of anything that levels the playing field especially if it’s technology that works with your iPhone!
We haven’t seen CaiqueTech or the PI SpeedGun on Kickstarter yet, but we’ll keep an eye out. Maybe they’ll even send us one to review. In the meantime, check out the PI Speed Gun video below.
