Apple’s M. Night Shyamalan Series ‘Servant’ Coming Nov. 28 as Apple Shares Teaser Trailer

We already know the initial roster of eight shows that will be coming to Apple TV+ when it launches on Nov. 1, and Apple hasn’t been shy about sharing trailers for these new shows since at least July.

However, after the Apple TV+ section appeared in Apple’s TV app last month, three additional shows were included with no other information on when they would appear other than that they were “Coming Soon.” Since “soon” could mean anything, it wasn’t exactly clear whether we’d even see these shows launch before Christmas, much less in the month of November.

Now it looks like at least one of them, the M. Night Shyamalan drama Servant, has an actual release date, and you won’t have to wait long to see it. Solitude, a new teaser trailer shared on the official Apple TV+ YouTube channel has revealed that the new series will debut on Nov. 28, only four weeks after the service launches.

The trailer itself is about as cryptic as one might expect from a Shyamalan thriller, showing only a white background with a baby being diapered and gently caressed on the head by the hand of a parent, followed by the question, “What Do You Believe?”

The description of the video on YouTube also provides the same synopsis as seen in the TV app and already previously shared by Apple elsewhere.

Servant follows a Philadelphia couple in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.

Apple also previously shared two other short teaser clips during the Emmy Awards last month, Jericho and Cricket. While the videos don’t provide too much more information, other reports have indicated that the series will involve the couple, who will be played by Tony Kebbell and Lauren Ambrose, and a young nanny named Leanne (Nell Tiger Free) who is hired to care for their newborn child.

Notably, Apple’s actual TV app doesn’t yet show a release date for Servant, and unlike the trailers for its upcoming kids shows, this one was shared on its YouTube channel first and isn’t yet available in the TV app.

Servant looks like it will be one of the first “darker” shows that Apple is putting forward on its service, which otherwise appears to be opening with more lighthearted dramatic, comedic, and children’s fare.

Contrary to early rumours, Apple hasn’t been shying away from more mature themes, but the company does seem determined to focus on shows that have a deeper narrative — or, as the company’s tagline puts it, “Stories to believe in” — rather than those that simply include violence and other mature content for its own sake. Apple reportedly scrapped plans to produce a gritty Richard Gere-led drama not simply because the content was too violent, but due the showrunners’ desire to focus more on vigilante justice than on the relationship between the lead characters.

Other Shows Coming to Apple TV+

Apple also recently shared a short teaser clip for the Octavia Spencer led crime drama, Truth Be Told, which will star Spencer as Poppy Parnell, a “true crime” podcaster who fights to reopen a high-profile murder case where she may have wrongfully put a man behind bars.

Apple has not yet shared a release date for Truth Be Told, although if Servant is any indication, we can probably expect it to arrive before the end of the year.

The third “coming soon” title currently being promoted in Apple’s TV app is not a show, but rather the feature film Hala. While Apple hasn’t shared any details on this one yet, Variety recently reported that it will be coming to theatres first on November 22, with an Apple TV+ release sometime in December.

This coincides with the news last week that Apple plans to release most, if not all of its Apple TV+ movies in theatres prior to making them available on the streaming service in order to gain status and curry favour with Hollywood producers as well as ensure eligibility for Academy Awards. Similarly, even the documentary The Elephant Queen, which is scheduled to be available on Apple TV+ when it launches on Nov. 1, will be coming to theatres even sooner, with Variety reporting an Oct. 18 release.

While it hasn’t appeared in the TV app yet, Apple is also expected to release its The Banker, starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson, in theatres on December 6th, with it expected to hit Apple TV Plus in January.
