As expected, Apple today unveiled its latest iPad models – the new iPad 8th generation and iPad Air.
Equipped with iPadOS 14, the new iPads are among Apple’s most exciting iPad updates to date, balancing power and price in its lineup of consumer-focused tablets.
iPad 8th Generation
The iPad 8th generation keeps the same 10.2-inch display, but ups performance with Apple’s A12 chipset.
The A12 boasts of a quad-core GPU and a six-core CPU that delivers a 40% boost in performance over the previous model.
It is two times faster than the top Windows notebook making it a worthy choice for portable computing.
Other features include support for the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard.
It’ll be powered by iPadOS 14 which brings a slew of new features. iPadOS 14 lets you enter text into any field with the Pencil. You also can use the keyboard or trackpad just like you would on your Mac.
The new iPad starts at $329 with pre-orders starting today. The iPad will land in retail stores this Friday, September 18th.
iPad Air
The new iPad Air has a revamped design with an edge-to-edge, high-resolution, Liquid Retina 10.9-inch display.
One of the biggest changes is in Touch ID. Apple did away with a dedicated Touch ID button at the bottom of the display and embedded it into the top button.
To unlock the device or authenticate purchases, all you need to do is rest your finger on the button. It’s one of the smallest Touch ID buttons Apple has built to date.
The iPad Air also ships with Apple’s new A14 Bionic chipset. The A14 is the company’s first 5nm process chipset, packing 11.8 billion transistors into this tiny die.
It offers a 6-core CPU with a 40 percent performance increase and a new GPU with a 30% boost in performance compared to previous iPad Air models.
Also bundled into the A14 is a faster Neural Engine and more powerful machine learning that enables mind-blowing graphics and innovative hands-free interactivity.
Along with the new processor, the iPad Air is a dream for those who want an iPad to edit and watch multimedia. The iPad Air includes a front 7MP FaceTime HD camera and a rear 12MP camera that delivers 4K video and incredible photos.
A new speaker setup allows for listening to stereo audio and new USB-C support allows you to attach a variety of peripherals.
The new iPad Air will be available for $599 and comes in five great colors including new blue and green hues. You can buy the iPad Air starting next month.
