Apple Is Now Running on 100% Green Energy

Apple has revealed that its global network of facilities is now powered by 100 percent green energy as part of plans to combat climate change.

On Monday, the American tech giant confirmed that all of its retail stores, offices, data centres and co-located facilities are being run on sustainable technologies.

Over the past few years, the company has been trying to slash carbon emissions and create a healthier environment for its employees and customers.

The company said it’s now reached this goal across 43 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, China and India.

It’s also contracted nine additional manufacturing partners to help maintain this effort in the years to come. Overall, Apple has committed to working with 23 sustainable manufacturers.

Despite the fact that Apple is now fully powered by renewable energy sources, it’s still working on new sustainable technology projects globally.

With the support of a consortium of partners, Apple said it’s looking to transform “the energy options for local communities, states and even entire countries”.

These projects include solar arrays, wind farms, biogas fuel cells, micro-hydro generation systems and energy storage technologies.

Currently, it is has 25 renewable energy projects in operation, all of which equate to 626 megawatts of generation capacity. A staggering 286 megawatts came into action last year.

The firm confirmed that 15 more projects are under “construction”, and once these are built, it’ll maintain 1.4 gigawatts of “clean renewable energy generation” in 11 countries.

“We’re committed to leaving the world better than we found it. After years of hard work we’re proud to have reached this significant milestone,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.

“We’re going to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the materials in our products, the way we recycle them, our facilities and our work with suppliers to establish new creative and forward looking sources of renewable energy because we know the future depends on it.”
