Apple Launches 4K HDR Movie Bundle Sale in the iTunes Store

Apple on Tuesday launched a new iTunes movie bundles sale, featuring a wide range of 4K HDR films at a cheaper price than usual. The sale is meant to help new Apple TV 4K owners jumpstart a collection of 4K films.

The bundles, which each feature three 4K HDR films, are categorized by studio and then further divvied up by genre. While many of the three-film bundles run $19.99, some cost $22.99 or $24.99, depending on the studio and the specific bundle. Universal Studios, Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox only feature $24.99 bundles, for example.

It’s worth noting that the prices of the 4K HDR bundles are actually lower than the standard definition versions. In some cases, the 4K bundles are less than half the price of their SD counterparts. It seems that, at this point, Apple is only looking to offer discounts on its 4K HDR content, which is understandable.

4K HDR films are a relatively new addition to the iTunes Store. Apple started updating iTunes with 4K content just a few months ago, alongside the release of the Apple TV 4K. “We’re so excited about movies in 4K HDR on Apple TV 4K that we want to help kick-start your collections,” Apple wrote of the bundle sale.

In addition to the 4K bundles, holiday sales on other content are common on the iTunes Store, and this year is no different. The iTunes Store is currently offering discounted Christmas films in 4K, including Home Alone, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Holiday (for $9.99 each).
