In an effort to nudge you toward an upgrade, Apple is offering “extra credit” for your old iPhone if you trade it in at an Apple retail store or online. The promotion runs from now until June 3 and applies to iPhone 11 and newer models.

While it’s not a huge increase ($10 to $30) and you only receive the boost if you apply your trade to a new iPhone, every little bit helps.

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect if you decide to trade your current Apple device in-store or online.

You can find an estimate of your device’s trade-in value on Apple’s online trade-in page. However, Apple ultimately decides the value of your device based on an evaluation of its condition when the company receives it. If you decide to move forward with an online trade-in, Apple will send you a physical kit or email you drop-off instructions.

Alternatively, you can bring your device to an Apple Store, where a specialist will inspect your iPhone and provide an exact value on the spot.

If you’re trading in your iPhone when buying a new device, you’ll have 14 days to return your old iPhone. It usually takes about 2–3 weeks for you to learn how much you’ll receive if you trade your old iPhone via email or store drop-off. You’ll be able to track the status of your trade online.

If you buy a new device online with a trade-in, the credit will be applied to your original form of payment if paid in full, or credited to your monthly bill if you make monthly payments. If you’re not ready to make your next purchase, you’ll receive an Apple gift card.
