With each new iPhone comes a better camera experience. However, Apple could really revolutionize the iPhone camera experience if it implements a newly discovered patent on the new iPhone 6S next year. Sources have found that Apple has patented a digital camera with a light splitter small enough to fit into a wireless device, such as an iPhone.

This camera technology is not new and is commonly used in high-end video cameras to capture lights and colors negating any wobbling caused by the user. Miniaturizing this system to fit into the iPhone would be revolutionary for several reasons.

The iPhone’s current camera system has individual pixels that capture red, green, and blue lights which are scattered over a single sensor. This means that each color only has one third of the space of the sensor. If something could split the light with a cube, each color can have an entire sensor to itself, allowing for more accurate colors and much better images in low-light situations.

This could be a game-changer for Apple since it would effectively make its camera much more powerful without taking any precious storage space on the phone. Apple prides their products on being powerful-but-not-bulky, so applying this light splitter would help Apple stay ahead in mobile photography.
