The Apple Watch is a great device for tracking your health and fitness goals, with Activity app features like closing rings each day, competing in challenges, monthly rewards, and trends, all of which really help to encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Unfortunately, while all of these features work great to get you up and moving on days that you may simply not feel like it, they can be frustrating when you find that you actually can’t be as active as you’d like, and legitimately want to take a sick day without the risk of messing up your trends by not closing your rings.

Let’s face it, a single off day can mess up your entire streak, which can actually discourage some users from continuing to pursue their fitness goals. Many have long suggested that Apple offer a feature where users could occasionally take a day off without messing with their overall trends, but right now if you fail to close even one of your rings on a given day, you’ll break your streak, which can be a bit disheartening.

Fortunately, there are some ways to deal with this, and while some may consider these to be “cheating” methods, most of them are valid aspects of how the Apple Watch is designed, and at the end of the day it’s really just a tool that helps you choose how to pursue your own fitness goals.
