Apple’s Black Friday Deals Now Live, Offering a $200 Gift Card with Select Products

Apple promotions are exceedingly rare, so it’s a bigger deal than usual when Black Friday rolls around each year, as it marks the one time that anyone can get in on some deals on Apple products when buying directly from the company.
Apple’s only other significant sales events are its Back to School Promotions, which are limited to students and others who qualify for educational pricing. By contrast, its Black Friday deals are open to all customers.
However, the catch is that these aren’t direct money-off discounts on Apple products. You’ll never find a “Sale” tag in an Apple Retail Store, even on Black Friday. Instead, as with its educational promotions, Apple provides gift cards with the purchase of specific Apple products.
The value of the gift cards varies depending on the product. This year, it ranges from $25 for certain accessories up to $200 for the 15-inch MacBook Air. Those gift cards can’t be applied toward the purchase of the product itself, but they’re not a bad way to add a few extra accessories.
The other catch is that, as with previous years, most of Apple’s latest products aren’t part of the promotion. The 2024 M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air are included and will net you $100 and $75 gift cards, respectively. However, the new iPad mini isn’t on the list, nor are any of Apple’s latest M4 Macs or iPhone 16 models.
To be clear, you’ll almost certainly find better deals elsewhere on most of these items. For example, the AirPods Pro 2 are $153.99 on Amazon right now — nearly double the savings compared to the $50 gift card that Apple offers.
On the other hand, the newest product that Apple will give you a gift card for today is the AirPods 4 that were just released in September. Those are only worth a $25 gift card, but that’s better than you’ll get at most other major retailers. Amazon is selling the non-ANC AirPods 4 for $119, and the ANC AirPods 4 for $165, but those are only $10 and $14 off the regular prices, respectively. While B&H is matching those discounts, Best Buy is still selling them at full price, and Walmart is offering a paltry $1.01 discount.
Granted, those discounts are money in your pocket, but a $25 Apple Gift Card can be used for more than just Apple accessories and other hardware purchases. Apple’s new universal gift cards can also be applied to digital purchases, from music, books, and apps (including in-app purchases) to subscriptions like Apple Music.
The AirPods 4 are the only exception here. Nearly everything else on Apple’s list is discounted more deeply at the usual other Black Friday e-tailers. For instance, the only item that will net you a $200 gift card from Apple is the 15-inch M3 MacBook Air, which Amazon is selling for around $250 off, depending on configuration, and Best Buy is matching. The 13-inch models have similar discounts, putting a larger gap between them and Apple’s $175 gift card offer.
Nevertheless, Apple’s deal may be appealing if you’re looking for a custom MacBook Air configuration. Other retailers only sell the “stock” models, so you’ll need to order from Apple if you prefer to mix and match things like memory and storage.
It’s unclear how long Amazon and Best Buy’s Black Friday deals will run, but Apple’s end of Monday, December 2. However, as long as you make your purchase by then, you’ll receive your gift card, regardless of when your item actually ships.
Apple’s extended holiday return policy still applies to these promotional products, which means you’ll still have until January 8, 2025, to return them for a full refund — minus the gift card’s value, of course. According to Apple’s terms and conditions, you’ll need to send the unused gift card back with the product return, or Apple will deduct its value from your refund.
