Among all of the new features and changes that iOS 10 brought to iPhone, one that stood out was the refresh of the widget screen — it’s in a different place now, and is arguably way more handy because of its new location and features. Third-party app makers were quick to take advantage of the iOS 10 widget system, and here are some of the best.

1. Cheatsheet

cheatsheetCheatsheet is a handy little app that helps you remember all of those things that you constantly forget.

Identification numbers, license plate numbers, locker and luggage combinations — pretty much any little snippet of text can be stored in the app, and categorized with little hint icons. Your “cheatsheet” can be accessed without unlocking your phone, making it a handy way of storing important information without having to go into Notes, or a similar app.

Of course, because your widget screen can be accessed without inputting your passcode — and because Cheatsheet doesn’t offer any security protection — it’s probably best to keep especially sensitive or confidential data somewhere more secure.

2. Weather Underground

weather-undergroundThere are a lot of weather apps. So many, in fact, that yet another one probably seems like the last thing we need. But Weather Underground is different.

Wunderground, as it’s called on the home screen, is a powerful and accurate weather app that uses data collected from a network of over 100,000 weather stations. Along with localized temperature and weather data and hourly forecasts in the widget, the app itself has information on air quality, local flu outbreaks, UV risk index, weather photos shot by local users, a weather radar, and more.

Is it too much information? Maybe. But if you’re a weather nerd — or you just want the most thorough weather data available — it’s definitely worth a download.

3. Copied

copiedCopied is a robust clipboard manager app — but if you don’t know what a clipboard manager does, that might be confusing.

The app can save snippets of text, links and images in several different ways. You can save and edit a variety of different texts into Copied’s clipboard, and then copy all of it into a separate application. The included widget lets you preview, save or clear any of the text or images you’ve copied into the app’s clipboard. The app even has a powerful tool that lets you edit and reformat clippings via templates or JavaScript.

Have a cool quote you don’t want to forget? Copied can help save it. Want to copy and paste multiple website URLs into Copied’s clipboard? You can do that, too.

4. Tweety

tweetyIf you’re an avid Twitter user, Tweety is an awesome way to incorporate your beloved Twitter feed into your widget screen.

With Tweety, you can check your Twitter feed without unlocking your phone — which is reason enough to download the app, since Twitter doesn’t currently offer its own widget. But Tweety adds some extra functionality that goes above and beyond just that.

You can retweet, like or open any tweet from the widget itself — and Tweety will automatically bring you into the Twitter app. You can also view all of the details from your Twitter feed that you normally would — like recent mentions, retweets and news. If you use Twitter pretty consistently — and you wish there was a corresponding widget — Tweety might be just what you’re looking for.

5. Evernote

evernoteEvernote’s been around for a while, but that doesn’t make it any less useful.

The app itself is an extremely powerful note-taking app — but just calling it a note-taking app doesn’t do it justice. You can capture almost anything — notes, pictures, recordings, website links — and organize them to your heart’s content. Evernote could be the best thing for your productivity since the invention of the smartphone.

The app’s widget is simple, yet powerful too. The widget shows you three suggested notes, as well as several options for creating new notes, tasks or reminders, and taking a picture. A powerful search function allows you to sort through all of your saved notes quickly and easily.
