When you hear streaming services, the first thing that probably comes to mind is Netflix.

There’s a reason why Netflix has become so popular. The company basically created a brand new subscription system that re-invented the way we consume video content.

And while the company has been growing ever since Netflix became a movie service, some people might argue that the platform isn’t what it used to be. Other might suggest that the monthly fees have gotten so high that it’s time to look elsewhere.

If you feel this way, you might try new streaming services and seeing whether they work better for you. Here are some Netflix alternatives worth exploring.

1. HBO Max

HBO Max might not be the best streaming service when it comes to the user interface, as the service still lacks some basic functionality that others offer.

However, where HBO Max shines is in its content. HBO has been creating a solid library of amazing TV shows and movies to watch whenever you want.

For instance, HBO Max has fantastic original content like House of the Dragon—the Game of Thrones spin-off— Euphoria, and everyone’s new favorite, The Last of US. Chernobyl is as an excellent show depicting the events of the nuclear disaster in the 80’s. Of course, you’ll also find other awesome shows and movies like Sex and the City and Elvis.

2. Disney+

As far as the number of subscribers, Disney+ is Netflix’s biggest competitor, and there’s a reason for that.

Whether you’re looking for family-friendly content, animated films, or superhero movies, Disney+ has your back.

The platform offers nothing but the best Disney has to offer. This includes popular and classic Disney and Pixar movies, all of the Star Wars and Marvel movies and TV shows, and even a few documentaries for you to enjoy with your family. If you love Disney, this one is a no-brainer.

3. Crunchyroll

Sony owned Crunchyroll isn’t your typical streaming service, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to love it.

What’s great about Crunchyroll is that it offers the biggest anime library you’ll find. It carries classic anime shows and movies. In a nutshell, you’ll be able to enjoy some of Japan’s latest and greatest anime.

Not only that, but Crunchyroll’s subscription also gives you access to a hefty digital manga library. You can read as much as you want on the go without worrying about how many books you can carry before people notice you have a manga addiction.

The best part about Crunchyroll is that you can watch anime for free. All you need to do is create your account, and you’ll have access to almost all of the platform’s library. You’ll still have to watch ads, but it’s a small price to pay for anime lovers on a budget.

4. Amazon Freevee

Freevee’s name says it all. Unlike other options on the list, Freevee stands out for being a completely free streaming service.

However, just like with other free platforms, you’ll have to watch ads occasionally before you can continue watching the show and movie you want.

But if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll have access to a pretty big library filled with incredible classic movies and some newer titles as well. For instance, you can find Marvel’s Logan, Deadpool, and Deadpool 2.

Not only that, but the platform also offers exclusive content called Freevee Originals. The best part about Freevee is that you don’t have to choose between Netflix and this platform. Since it’s free, you can use both without spending any extra money.

5. Apple TV+

You’ve probably heard of Apple TV+ if you’re an Apple fan. But if you haven’t tried it, this is your chance to give this platform a try.

As you can expect from Apple, Apple TV+ focuses mostly on showering us with great original content that’ll make you laugh, cry, and maybe even have a different perspective on your life.

You’ll find great shows like Ted Lasso and award-winning movies like Wolfwalkers

While it isn’t the most popular option, mostly because of how hard it is to use on non-Apple devices, Apple TV+’s library makes this platform worth considering. Plus, you know this streaming service works great with all your Apple devices.

If you’ve recently bought an Apple product, be sure to check your Apple ID. You might have a three-month free trial.

6. Amazon Prime Video

It’s not a surprise that a company as big as Amazon also has a streaming service that can compete with Netflix.

Amazon Prime Video includes some of the best original content you can find online. Whether you love or hate the superhero trend, you’ll find shows like Invincible and The Boys that take the superhero genre and flip it upside down.

On top of that, there are also many old classic movies that streaming platforms like Netflix don’t have. For instance, you can find old classics like The Gold Rush and West Side Story.

The best part is that if you have an Amazon Prime subscription or plan to subscribe to Amazon Prime, Prime Video will be available at no extra charge.

7. Hulu

Hulu is one streaming service that has been around for almost as long as Netflix. Unfortunately, the days when Hulu was free are long gone, but the platform still offers many different subscription plans for every budget.

Hulu offers a library with both old and new titles that you’ll love to rewatch or experience for the first time.

For instance, you’ll find old titles like The Golden Girls and new sitcoms like Superstore. There’s something for everyone, and if you want to take your subscription to the next level, you can also subscribe to Hulu’s bundle, which includes Disney+ and ESPN+.

Of course, that’s going to be a bit pricy for most of us, but it offers an ad-supported subscription plan for a lower monthly price.

Enjoy Content Outside of Netflix

There was a time when Netflix was the king of streaming services. Now, however, there are many more options. Some of them are even free, or better said, ad-supported. This means you don’t have to rely solely on Netflix for your binge-watching sessions.

If you want to give your Netflix subscription a break, these above options are the best ones to get started.
