As we learned at the Apple Event at this week, television is a staple for the average home. With all of the new options for streaming apps on devices such as the iPad, iPhone, and now even the Apple TV, television apps can provide even more entertainment than your average streaming services. We all know about Netflix and Hulu for watching TV, but there are so many more options for catching your favorite shows that you might not know about.
1. GoWatchit
Although you can’t watch TV on this app, you can use this app to find out everywhere else you can watch your favorite movies and TV. This app is great for finding out where to watch a specific movie; either through TV, the movie theaters, or a streaming service. The app will look through a variety of sources such as Amazon Prime, Google Play, Fandango or even Xbox Video. Users can make a queue of all the movies they want to watch, platforms to watch them on, as well as receive alerts about movies becoming available. You can download this app for free at the iTunes Store.
2. HBO Go
One of our personal favorites for watching some of the most exciting and quality TV and movies is HBO Go. HBO Go is a great way for you to see all of your favorite HBO shows straight from any streaming device. You can see the latest HBO movies as well as the best HBO originally programming like Game of Thrones, Girls, and True Detective. Vessel is an iOS streaming service that will provide users with early access to videos and episodes from a wide variety of shows such as the Tonight Show, UFC, and YouTube content. Users can follow their favorite shows, channels, and even browse from a ton of categories. This service does require a paid subscription of $2.99 a month, or free users can still get access to a ton of shows and content (just non-early access). You can download Vessel at the iTunes Store.
With a subscription to Sling Television, you can get access to all of your favorite TV channels and have the ability to stream these to any iOS device. The subscription starts at $20 a month with a “Best of Live TV” package that includes channels such as ESPN, CNN, and HGTV. You can also purchase other packages and add-ons at your convenience. This app will also give you a quick at-a-glance of what’s on at the moment, the ability to fast forward, rewind, and pause on most channels, as well as have access to up to 3 days of replays. 6. Crackle
One of our favorites for streaming TV and movies is the award-winning app Crackle. Unlike most other TV streaming services, Crackle is able to deliver all of its content to you for free. That’s right; no sign ups or subscriptions necessary. Users can stream from a ton of TV shows, movies, anime, as well as exclusive content for the app. This app has a huge media library on demand for most users’ preferences. The one catch? There are ads within the movies; but it’s a small price to pay for endless amounts of free movies and TV shows. You can download this free app at the iTunes Store.
