Accessory manufacturer Brydge has teased its new line of keyboard covers for Apple’s just-released 2018 iPad Pro lineup.
Unlike other iPad keyboard covers, Brydge’s entire goal with its accessories is to mimic a notebook or laptop as closely as possible. While Apple has no plans to merge its iPad and Mac lineups, the iPad Pro is undoubtedly moving in the Mac’s direction.

Compared to past iPad covers, the new Brydge models look even more MacBook-like. It’s not clear what features they’ll sport, however. When asked if the new keyboards would be Bluetooth-based, Brydge responded that it “can’t share all of (its) secrets at once.”
Past Brydge iPad keyboards have featured a more fleshed out keyboard with the standard suite of key options, built-in stereo speakers and a battery that could last “months” depending on usage. The cover’s rubberized grips also allow the tablet to fit snugly into them.
Notably, that means that users can pitch their iPads in basically any viewing angle that they want — like an actual notebook’s display. Even Apple’s keyboard covers only allow for two viewing angles.
Apple, of course, has been making various changes to its iPad Pro lineup that allow the device to mimic a computer’s functionality. This year, updates include a switch to USB-C and a processor that’s faster than many of the best desktop CPUs on the market.
Along with those changes, Brydge’s keyboard may be especially attractive to users who want a true Apple-built alternative to a 2-in-1 notebook hybrid.
It’s not clear how much the new keyboard covers will retail for, but Brydge’s current iPad Pro covers are priced at $139.99 and $149.99 for the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch tablets, respectively.
You can probably expect a similar price point for Apple’s 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models this year.
Brydge says its new keyboard covers will begin shipping early in 2019. Interested buyers can register for further announcements at this link.
