iOS 27.2 makes Apple’s smarter assistant much more worldly, and the year-end roadmap is already set

This week’s release of iOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and the rest of the gang brought some nice Siri AI expansions with it, including the ability to recall past conversations and support for five new languages. But the good news is that Apple isn’t anywhere near done expanding the reach of its more capable AI assistant.

When Apple launched Siri AI in iOS 27 last month, it was confined to English. Thankfully, unlike the 2024 rollout of Apple Intelligence, which was only available in US English, Siri AI came to pretty much every English dialect.

Apple also wasted no time promising more language support. During its September iPhone launch event, before iOS 27 was even released to the public, it had already told us that French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish were on deck for October. Hence their arrival in iOS 27.2.

With those out of the way, Apple has now announced the next four languages in the queue:

Language support for Siri AI will continue to expand, with availability in Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese coming by the end of the year.

That suggests these will likely be added in iOS 27.3. If Apple sticks to its usual playbook, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out, as a new developer beta is likely just around the corner.

It’s worth noting that this simply refers to the languages in which Siri AI — Apple’s new voice assistant and chatbot — is available. The broader Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools and Image Playground continue to be available in sixteen language options (counting both Simplified and Traditional Chinese), including the four that are still waiting on Siri AI.

The full list is Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Despite the expanded language support, Siri AI also remains unavailable in China — and on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS in the European Union — for reasons entirely unrelated to linguistics. This means that this week’s addition of French, Portuguese, and Spanish is primarily for non-EU countries where these languages are spoken. On the other hand, the upcoming addition of Norwegian is likely for Norway, which is not part of the EU.

This week’s iOS 27.2 updates also allow Siri AI to recall past conversations, letting you ask Siri follow-up questions in different threads. Previously, each new conversation was an isolated silo. Siri AI also now has the ability to draw from sources such as photos attached in Messages, people invited to Calendar appointments, Safari history and Reading List, and even your voicemails.

Apple has also promised that Siri AI will come to the second- and third-generation Apple TV 4K with tvOS 27.2, along with the new fourth-generation model. It hasn’t gone live yet, but Apple may be waiting for the new Apple TV 4K to land in November before turning the key on the older models. Meanwhile, Apple has already said that Siri AI won’t be available on the new HomePod mini 2 when the speakers go on sale this week, but is instead “coming in a future software update.”
