New Rumor Suggests Apple Could Release a ‘Jet White’ iPhone 7 – But Don’t Hold Your Breath

Riding on the coattails of the recently introduced Jet Black iPhone 7’s success, new mumblings from the rumor mill are now suggesting that Apple could at least be toying with the idea of releasing an equally shiny “Jet White” variant to the popular, high-gloss color that was introduced earlier this fall.

The rumor of a super-shiny “Jet White” iPhone 7, which was brought to our attention earlier this morning courtesy of the popular Japanese blog, Macotokara, is unfortunately not based on any input from reliable sources. And therefore, we highly recommend taking it in with a heaping grain of salt until further notice.

It’s not clear from the Macotokara report as to when, or even if, this supposed “Jet White” color option could be touching down. However, as Rajesh Padney of iPhoneHacks points out, Apple isn’t known to release new color options of its iPhone handset once the devices are already knee-deep in their life-cycle. So while it’s unlikely that we’ll see a “Jet White” color option touch down this year, it is possible that 2017’s hotly anticipated iPhone 8 will be launched in a “Jet White” color option next year.

Apple introduced two new colors when it unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this September — including the most popular, high-gloss Jet Black option, as well as a matte-black variant of the same color, and the standard Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver options we’ve grown so accustomed to over the last few years.

For what it’s worth, Apple’s introduction of the new colors appears to have been a splash for the company — likely because we haven’t seen a new color — or any major design changes, for that matter — added to the device in the last several years. The last time Apple offered a white-backed iPhone color option was when the company was selling the iPhone 4 and 4s back in 2010 and 2011, respectively. However, that handset wasn’t built from the same materials as the iPhone 7 — but rather, it employed an all-glass/metal framed construction, similar to the kind rumored for the company’s iPhone 8.
