If you have enough space on your post-2009 Mac and have automatic downloads turned on, Apple will automatically load macOS Sierra in place of OS X El Capitan onto your device. The download will be enabled randomly sometime in the next week, according to The Loop, which broke the news.

If, for some reason, you don’t want this to happen, don’t worry: Apple will still prompt you for permission to install MacOS Sierra, even though it will automatically download the update in the background. You can also manually delete the update to stop being prompted to install it; or simply turn off automatic downloads.

Apple is taking a page out of Microsoft’s playbook with its new OS release, adopting a more aggressive rollout strategy and making upgrading a more seamless and quick experience in order to boost installment rates.

MacOS Sierra started distribution as a free upgrade on September 20 and is the successor to OS X. Other than the all-new naming scheme, macOS Sierra also brings with it a couple of useful new upgrades that may entice you download it.

For one, Siri finally comes to your desktop with macOS Sierra. You can access your AI assistant through keystrokes (fn-space), speaking, or mouse-clicks. You can even customize Siri’s gender and nationality. If you have an Apple Watch and are in close proximity to your desktop, you can use your smartwatch to unlock your Mac.

Sierra also enables picture-in-picture viewing on your Mac, as on your iPad, allowing you to extract web videos and play it on your desktop while you work on something else. If you love playing around with your photo collection, Sierra updates Mac Photos with a Memories feature that use facial recognition and machine intelligence to create documentary-style montages of related photos.
