Watch iPhone 7 Destroy Samsung’s Galaxy S7 in Deep Water Submersion Test

EverythingApplePro has subjected the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7, the two most popular smartphones of the year, to a competitive diving contest to see which handheld fares better underwater.
Apple’s iPhone 7 is water-resistant with a certified IP67 standard rating, meaning that the handset is built to survive submersion in water at a depth of one meter (approximately 3.28 feet) for a duration of 30 minutes.
Samsung’s Galaxy S7 is also water-resistant, though it is billed as having an even higher IP68 rating. This means that the Galaxy S7 can withstand submersion in water at a greater depth of 1.5 meters (approximately 5 feet) for an indefinite duration of time. But when the two ultimately squared off in this deep-water dunking duel, the iPhone 7 blew its waterlogged competitor…well…out of the water.
The mad smartphone dunkers at EverythingApplePro devised a pretty straightforward, if somewhat unscientific, test in which the two phones were placed in a perforated paint can tied to measuring tape, and dropped into a river at progressively lower depths for five minute-long intervals. Both the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 survived being held five feet underwater for a period of five minutes without any discernible damage.
Things started to get hairy at 30 feet when the Galaxy S7 began rebooting intermittently and the iPhone 7’s force-sensitive home button ceased to function properly. After five minutes of submersion at 35 feet underwater, the Galaxy S7 gave up the ghost entirely while the iPhone 7 coolly walked away with minor display damage and a glitchy home button.
While the test should be taken with a grain of salt, if you find yourself implausibly forced to go diving with a smartphone, you might be better off taking an iPhone 7.
