We’ve heard a number of rumors suggesting that Apple would be releasing some of its most highly-acclaimed iOS apps for Google’s Android handsets. However, as far as we know, the Cupertino-company has no imminent plans of opening up the treasure trove of iOS exclusive apps to its Silicon Valley neighbor.

However, that subtle reality hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from bringing us this most recent bit of (very questionable) news.. According to “sources familiar with the company’s thinking,” who allegedly spilled the beans in an interview with MacDailyNews, Apple is finally gearing up to launch a dedicated iMessage for Android client at the Cupertino-company’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC).

Of course, while Apple, itself, hasn’t suggested anything along the lines thereof, there have over the years surfaced plenty of rumors suggesting that iMessage might soon be coming to Android. iMessage is currently exclusive to Apple’s iOS- and OS X-powered devices and computers.

Within the same report, the source also notes that Apple’s plans are “constantly changing,” and therefore, while the prospect of seeing iMessage for Android come to the table next week is still very much “up in the air,” the source adamantly believes that Apple will, in fact, be releasing some form of iMessage for Android by the end of the year.

And, of course, if the rumor does ultimately pan out to be true, then the millions of Android users around the world today would finally be able to unrestrictedly chat with their iPhone-wielding comrades.

For what it’s worth, though: Apple has been focusing heavily on its insanely profitable internet-based services business in recent months — particularly as sales of the company’s iPhone have continued to simmer down quite a bit from their all-time high of approximately 74.78 million units in the first quarter of 2016.

Still, we haven’t heard much in the way of iMessage coming to Android in legitimate form, even despite the influx of rumors and expectations suggesting that Apple is gearing up to put on quite a show this year. So, perhaps for obvious reasons, maybe we should just take this new rumor with a giant grain of salt until further notice.

How does the prospect of iMessage coming to Android sound to you? Let us know in the comments!
