iPhone 7 Plus to Feature 3 GB of RAM and a High-End Dual-Camera System According to Analyst

There are literally hundreds of rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 7’s features floating about the internet – some of them are far-fetched, and some of them are feasible. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which rumors are coming from credible sources, and which are simply hoaxes or unfounded speculation. Several new predictions surfaced yesterday, this time coming from a trusted source. A research note put out by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, famed for his accuracy in Apple predictions and leaks, reveals several details about the upcoming iPhone 7 Plus, due to release this coming September.

Kuo, who has an astonishingly accurate track record when it comes to Apple products, seems to contradict, or rather revise one of his predictions he made early this year. Back in January, Kuo predicted that Apple would release three new iPhone models this September – a 4.7-inch iPhone 7, a 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, and a 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Pro, the latter of which would feature a dual-camera system, which has been highly rumored about since before the release of the iPhone 6s. However, Kuo’s most recent note states that Apple will only release two phones – the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which will include the oft-rumored dual-camera system.

Aside from the lack of a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, the dual-camera system is probably the most highly cited rumor surrounding the upcoming device. Perhaps in part due to the “initial market response” to Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei’s latest device, the P9, one of the first smartphones to incorporate a dual-camera system, Kuo claims that a dual-camera will “become a must-have feature for a high-end smartphone.” “In order to maintain its leading position in the high-end market,” says Kuo, “we expect Apple will fully adopt dual-camera on the new 5.5-inch iPhone in [the second half of 2016].”

Dual-camera systems are capable of producing incredibly detailed images, with impressive image stabilization and true optical zoom, which, Kuo claims, will be “limited” due to form factor constraints. Regardless, the system should be quite the upgrade over the traditional iPhone camera, and will be bolstered by a RAM upgrade to 3GB in the iPhone 7 Plus model to account for the image processing demands of the new system. According to Kuo, the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 model will sport a single-camera system, with the usual 2GB of RAM.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to release this coming September. Although several rumors floating about claim that the device will feature a touch-sensitive home button and new Smart Connector for attaching accessories, many expect the new device to be a somewhat marginal upgrade over the previous iPhone models released last year.
