Rumors suggest Apple Music is getting a major update, to be announced at the next Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this June. The music streaming service is not quite a year old and has about 13 million subscribers currently. However, some customers have complaints.

Tom Warren of The Verge writes about the common complaint centering around the “confusing interface and a lack of features” of Apple Music. Cnet’s initial review of Apple Music had 3 1/2 stars, suggesting the service “has a lot of potential” but, “bugs and confusing interface keep it from edging out Spotify.” Warren says there hasn’t been a major update to Apple Music since its release.

Writer Jim Darlymple described the service as a “nightmare” on The Loop in July of last year, when he tried Apple Music for the first time. He had trouble adding albums as not all of the songs would be carried over to his library. Sometimes songs get greyed out or mismatched, either becoming missing or put into a separate album. To add to that, another negative change happened in recent memory, as some radio channels were removed including the Top 50 Alternative Songs of the Week.

Criticisms of the service extended to celebrates like Taylor Swift. Apple changed their policy because of Swift, and artists were eventually paid royalties during the free trial period. Now Swift is onboard and is even featured in a new Apple Music ad.

A surprising rumor suggests that part of the Apple Music update will put less focus on their Connect feature. Connect is a social media feature and allows fans to learn more about their favorite artists, where they can give their fans updates and information about their albums and it may no longer be featured on the parent menu, writes Neil Hughes from AppleInsider.

Apple Music is currently a decent streaming service, but a new design should make the service much better. An improved interface along with more radio stations would be a huge benefit. The Beats takeover was but one step in the right direction, but Apple needs to innovate their music streaming service and perhaps add video content similar to Amazon Video. For now, we’ll just have to wait to WWDC to see what Apple has in store.
