This year’s iPhone lineup is rumored to see an upgrade in the battery department. And today, a new supply chain report suggests that it could be a major upgrade for at least two of the devices

Battery Capacities

DigiTimes on Wednesday shared a list of expectations for the upcoming Apple handsets. Among the new and predicted features are estimates for the battery capacities of the upcoming handsets. Here’s how they break down.

  1. iPhone XS successor: 3,200mAh battery
  2. iPhone XS Max successor: 3,500mAh battery
  3. iPhone XR successor: 3,000mAh battery

That presents about a 20 percent bump in battery capacity for the 5.8-inch iPhone 11; a 10 percent increase for the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Max; and a 2 percent increase for the iPhone 11R.

This pretty much lines up with past rumors about this year’s iPhone battery capacity — especially if you consider the fact that DigiTimes is likely giving rough estimations rather than firm capacity numbers.

Larger batteries would boost the battery life across the 2019 iPhone lineup. A 20 percent increase for the larger OLED model would likely result in significant battery life gains.

While it may seem like the iPhone XR is getting stiffed in the battery upgrade department, it’s important to keep in mind that the device already has the best battery life of basically any iPhone.

Of course, based on other rumors, it seems that the main reason Apple is bumping up the battery size is to allow for better two-way wireless charging capabilities. That could allow iPhone owners to charge their AirPods or Apple Watch by placing them on the back of their handsets.

Other Rumored Features

In addition to the battery capacity, DigiTimes’ expected features pretty much corroborate most of the current rumors about this year’s iPhones.

The lineup is expected to retain pretty much the same design, although the OLED models will get a triple-lens camera and the LCD model will be upgraded to a dual-lens setup. They’ll also sport Apple’s new A13 chipset and new color options (which could include green and lavender).

Interestingly, the report also suggests that Apple will introduce a dual Nano-SIM iPhone XS option, likely for the Chinese market. While all three 2018 iPhones support dual-SIM capabilities via Apple’s eSIM technology, the Chinese version of the iPhone XS can only support a single SIM card.
