If the rumors are true, this year’s iPhone 17 Pro models may feature the most significant design changes we’ve seen since Apple returned to flat sides for the iPhone 12 lineup in 2020. There have already been multiple reports of a full-width camera bump, and now a new set of leaked renders are giving us a closer look at that and several other anticipated changes.

While there has been some skepticism about the rumored camera bar design, with many doubting Apple would so closely follow the Google Pixel, some of those fears were allayed when it was revealed that Apple planned to blend the colors rather than go with a stark black bar like the one found on the Pixel 9.

Now, leaker Majin Bu has shared some purported renders of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which show the expanded camera array in all its glory, along with another interesting twist: an Apple logo that has been moved down into the MagSafe array.

The new camera bump has been growing on me as I’ve seen more renders, as there’s a certain symmetry to it that the current square bump lacks. If these visuals are accurate, Apple will relocate the flash and LiDAR sensor to the edge, offering a visually balanced design. More importantly, the elongated design also means the iPhone 17 Pro should lie less awkwardly on a table. That’s something I’ve always appreciated about recent Pixel models.

The repositioned Apple logo also makes sense from a visual design perspective, as it would now be centred on the flat portion of the iPhone 17 Pro models, which may end up being a distinct glass panel surrounded by an aluminum frame, rather than the current edge-to-edge glass design, although there’s some disagreement on this between various sources.

Several posts on X by Majin Bu still show renders of an all-glass back; however, a Weibo post today from Instant Digital claims that Apple will abandon titanium for a return to aluminum, but also use it to frame the glass. The switch to aluminum was reported last year by The Information’s Wayne Ma, although he offered no specifics about what this might look like.

In either case, since the Apple logo would bisect the MagSafe charging ring, clear case accessories would need to be redesigned to avoid blocking the logo.

On the front side, a new Weibo post from Digital Chat Station claims that the new iPhone 17 models will feature a redesigned Dynamic Island with a new user interface that translates as “a Smart Island UI.” This could be something software-based in iOS 26, but it sounds like it may apply exclusively to the iPhone 17. Rumors about changes to the Dynamic Island have been confusing, with some suggesting the iPhone 17 will merely get a smaller Dynamic Island.

Along similar lines, the iPhone 17 and the new “iPhone 17 Air” are expected to feature slimmer bezels, matching those of the iPhone 16 Pro models. With the iPhone 17 also expected to grow to the 6.3-inch display of the iPhone 16 Pro, it stands to reason that it would adopt a similar bezel design. However, it’s unclear if these will match the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max or if Apple plans to keep those ahead of the pack with even smaller bezels.
