Exclusive | New iPhone 14 Pro Details

Much has been said about the iPhone 14, and its release is not even close, but I have received new information that Apple could bring something to the iPhone that many people, myself included, have wanted for years. I am talking about USB-C.
That’s right. Apple is considering adding a USB-C port to the next iPhone. More specifically, to the Pro lineup.
According to several sources familiar with the matter, who wish to remain anonymous, there are three main reasons for this move:
Transfer Speeds
The iPhone 14 Pro, as well as the 13 Pro, will allow people to record footage in ProRes, and that uses up a lot of space. For example, one minute of 4K ProRes video takes up 6 GB of storage. This type of footage is meant for professionals who want to shoot video with their iPhones. Therefore, these files will most likely be longer than a minute and will consume a lot more storage space. Professionals will need to export this video to a computer to edit it, and here comes the problem with Lightning. This connector has been around since 2012, and it uses USB 2.0 speeds.
Let’s say I am a professional, and I record two hours of raw 4K ProRes video. That’s a 720 GB file. Imagine I want to transfer that file to my computer via a Lightning cable. I would have to wait 3 hours and 45 minutes. However, if my iPhone has USB-C with USB 4 technology, as found in the new iPad Pro, I would have to wait 2 minutes and 38 seconds to transfer that same file to my computer. If “Pro” really means professional to Apple, this change is necessary, and Apple needs to make it now.
Legal Troubles
Apple wants to avoid future legal problems caused by not including a universal connector like USB-C. Both the Biden-Harris Administration and the European Union are pushing for USB-C ports in all devices and are prepared to fine any tech company that does not adhere to this standard.
The inclusion of this port in Pro iPhones could be used as a future argument, as Apple could easily claim that they are in the midst of a transition to leave Lightning behind. The iPhone 13 will continue to use Lightning as it is a much cheaper connector. I expect the lower-end iPhone models to get a USB-C port by 2023.
Environment and Cost
Protecting the environment is very important for Apple. It’s one of the company’s core values, and executives know they can not continue to use Lightning because it causes too many problems. If the iPhone switched to USB-C, and there was only one type of connector for all smartphones, it would certainly help the environment.
This is just a thought, but Apple could also say that with billions of USB-C cables out there, they will no longer ship the iPhone with one of them, making it more profitable.
