Here’s Why You Need to Install iOS 18.6.2 On Your iPhone

Are you still rocking iOS 18.6.1? Then you might want to update your iPhone as soon as possible. No, there aren’t any new and flashy features to try, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t an important update.
Apple launched iOS 18.6.2 just a few days ago, urging customers to update from iOS 18.6.1, which was released only a week prior.
The reason? Well, if you don’t want your iPhone to be vulnerable to security threats, you need to update it.
iOS 18.6.2 Brings Security Patches to your iPhone
As we mentioned, Apple launched iOS 18.6.1 and watchOS 11.6.1 a couple of weeks ago. These software updates were actually quite significant, at least for many Apple Watch owners in the US, as they collectively reintroduced the blood oxygen features to the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
However, iOS 18.6.1 probably brought a couple of security issues along with it. The issue was so big that Apple launched iOS 18.6.2 only a few days after.
While Apple was vague with its release notes, which only stated that this update “provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users,” as we explained last week, the iOS 18.6.2 patches a security flaw that Apple believes has already been exploited even before it was discovered by the company’s security researchers. That’s bad enough, but now that the existence of the flaw has been announced, it’s likely that even more hackers will be looking for ways to use it against you.
Needless to say, you should update your iPhone as soon as possible.
Update Your iPhone ASAP
If you aren’t sure if you’ve already updated your iPhone, you can check your current software update and update your iPhone to the latest available update by doing the following:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and go to General.
- Tap on Software Update.
If you’re iPhone is up to date, you’ll only see iOS 18.6.2 and the message that “iOS is up to date.” If an update is available, tap Update Now.

As you can see, installing iOS 18.6.2 is incredibly important. While there aren’t any new features to play around with, there are some important security fixes that you won’t want to miss.
iOS 18.6.2 will likely be the last iOS 18 software update for most users, as Apple is expected to release iOS 26 in the next couple of weeks. Keep your iPhone safe until the new update arrives, so you won’t encounter any issues.
